Improving the Health of Brevard County

As one of the largest not-for-profit organizations in Brevard County, Wuesthoff Health System takes its civic leadership role very seriously.

In addition to providing charity care for Brevard County residents, Wuesthoff believes that the best medicine is prevention. That's why we reach out to Brevard County residents with programs that give people tools and skills for healthier living. Here are a few:

  • Health fairs offer reduced-cost health tests and information. In the workplace and throughout the community, WHS sponsors more than 50 area health fairs, helping thousands of residents learn about their risk factors for diseases and ways to live longer, healthier, more active lives.
  • Free or low-cost health screenings help people identify potential problems early, when they are most treatable. WHS screenings have included prostate, diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol, skin cancer, respiratory, osteoporosis and cardiac risk factors.
  • Health and safety education is an important part of the care we provide both inside and outside the walls of our facilities. Wuesthoff staff travel off site to offer free seminars to the School Board of Brevard County to educate our children early so that good health decisions become a way of life. Community CPR classes share life-saving knowledge county-wide. Our staff also partners with local physicians, office managers and clinicians to advance the knowledge base of local health professionals.
  • Childbirth and parenting classes give parents skills in infant CPR, sibling preparation, and breast feeding.
  • Wuesthoff promotes immunization for all Brevard residents. Low cost flu shots prevent the spread of flu, which kills thousands of elderly Americans each year.
  • Support groups help people cope with some of life's most complex problems, from cancer to mental illness. There is no substitute for the support of others who face the same struggles. Wuesthoff fosters and encourages numerous support groups and provides a variety of services so that these vital grassroots groups can flourish and do their important work.
  • Our staff provides personal community service. When our employees are not working, many are active participants in the community. Our employees support more than 70 organizations that range from civic groups to fraternal organizations to local private non-profit organizations.
  • Crisis counseling is available through the Children's Advocacy Center to child abuse victims seen at the Child Protection Team. Case tracking is also provided for each case to ensure follow-up for every child seen by the Child Protection Team.
